If your Wegovy recently arrived without ice packs - or felt room temperature instead of cold - you might have done a double-take. Was something wrong? Was it safe to use?
Short answer: yes, it's absolutely fine. And it's intentional. Here's exactly what changed, why it changed, and what you need to do differently (spoiler: not much).
In April 2026, the MHRA approved an update to how Wegovy (semaglutide) FlexTouch pens can be transported in the UK. Before this, Wegovy had to stay within a strict cold chain - kept between 2°C and 8°C - from the moment it left the manufacturer right through to your door.
That's now changed for the final leg of the journey. Pharmacies can now deliver Wegovy to patients at temperatures up to 30°C for up to 48 hours. This makes Wegovy the first GLP-1 weight management treatment in the UK with this level of delivery flexibility.
The key facts:
Yes. The medication itself hasn't changed at all. The MHRA update was based on data showing Wegovy remains stable and effective at temperatures up to 30°C for up to 48 hours - well within a standard delivery window. The science backs it up; the regulators have signed it off.
This bit is simple. When your Wegovy lands on your doorstep:
Check the packaging is intact and there's no visible damage, leakage or discolouration to the pen.
If you're not starting straight away, put it straight in the fridge (2°C to 8°C).
If you're using it soon, keep it below 30°C and away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
This is probably the most important thing to know. The MHRA update only changed how Wegovy is transported to you. Once it's in your hands, the rules are exactly the same as before:
48 hours
The maximum approved transit window at up to 30°C - safely within standard UK delivery timeframes.
A room temperature delivery is not a concern. But do contact your pharmacy if:
There are a few reasons this update makes sense, beyond just the clinical safety data:
Fewer failed deliveries. Cold-chain packages don't sit well in courier depots or through missed deliveries. This change means less risk of your medication being held in conditions worse than the controlled room-temperature window.
Less packaging waste. Ice packs, insulated boxes and cold-chain materials add up. Removing them is a practical environmental win.
Better access. Simpler delivery logistics means it's easier to get medication to patients reliably, particularly through online and distance-selling pharmacies.
The bottom line
A Wegovy delivery that doesn't feel cold is not a problem - it's the new normal, fully signed off by the MHRA. Pop it in the fridge when it arrives if you're not starting straight away, follow the same storage rules as always, and carry on.
As always, if you have questions about your medication, your TribElle pharmacist is here. Just ask.
