MHRA approved · Now available in the UK

Wegovy is now available as a tablet — no needle required

The UK's first oral semaglutide tablet for weight management has been approved by the MHRA. Same active ingredient, no injections.

For years, weight loss medications such as Wegovy and Mounjaro have been available only as injections. Now, the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has approved the first oral semaglutide tablet for weight loss and weight management — offering a needle-free alternative for eligible adults.

If you've been considering GLP-1 medication but have been put off by injections, this could be the breakthrough you've been waiting for.

What is the Wegovy tablet?

The Wegovy tablet contains semaglutide — the same active ingredient found in Wegovy injections. Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists, which work by:

Reducing appetite and increasing feelings of fullness
Slowing stomach emptying
Helping reduce food cravings and food noise
Supporting sustainable weight loss when combined with healthy lifestyle changes

The tablet has been approved for adults with:

A BMI of 30 or above (obesity)
A BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related health condition (e.g. high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, or pre-diabetes)

How effective is the Wegovy tablet?

Clinical trials have shown impressive results.

14–17% Average body weight loss Over 64 weeks with lifestyle changes   20%+ Achieved by some participants Comparable to injectable Wegovy

Wegovy tablet dosage schedule

The Wegovy tablet follows a gradual dose escalation schedule to help minimise side effects. Patients should remain on each dose for at least one month before increasing.

Treatment period Daily dose
Month 1 1.5 mg daily
Month 2 4 mg daily
Month 3 9 mg daily
Month 4 onwards 25 mg daily (maintenance)

How do you take the Wegovy tablet?

Unlike most medications, oral semaglutide has specific administration instructions. Following these is essential to ensure the medication works effectively.

For best absorption — follow these steps every morning

Take first thing in the morning
Take on an empty stomach
Swallow with a small amount of water (up to 120ml)
Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other medications

Can I switch from Wegovy injections to Wegovy tablets?

Yes. According to current guidance, patients already stable on Wegovy 2.4mg weekly injections can switch directly to the oral tablet under the supervision of their prescribing clinician. However, the best transition strategy may vary depending on:

Your current dose and side effect profile
Weight loss progress to date
Other medical conditions

At TribElle, we always recommend discussing any medication switch with a qualified prescriber before making changes.

Why choose Wegovy tablets instead of injections?

Weight management isn't one-size-fits-all. Here's why many women are choosing the tablet option:

💉 No needlesRemoves the biggest barrier for those with injection anxiety
🗓️ Greater convenienceA daily tablet can be easier to build into your routine than weekly injections
✈️ Ideal for travellersTablets are easier to transport and manage when travelling regularly
🎯 More treatment choiceHaving options means treatment can be tailored to your lifestyle and preferences

Common side effects of Wegovy tablets

The side effects are similar to injectable semaglutide. Most are temporary and tend to improve as the body adjusts to treatment.

Common side effects

Nausea
Constipation
Diarrhoea

Also possible

!Vomiting
!Stomach discomfort
!Reduced appetite

Side effects are usually mild and temporary. The gradual dose escalation is specifically designed to help your body adjust and minimise discomfort.

Should you start with Wegovy tablets if you're new to GLP-1s?

If you're considering your first GLP-1 medication, the Wegovy tablet may be an excellent option if:

You dislike injections You want a clinically proven treatment You struggle with food noise You want flexibility and convenience You prefer a daily routine

The most important factor isn't whether you choose a tablet or injection. It's choosing a treatment plan that you can realistically maintain long term.
